THE PRESS OF ATLANTIC CITY LEADS STATE IN DAILY NEWSPAPER CIRCULATION GROWTH
New Audit Bureau Report Shows Commitment to Digital News
Increases Integrated Circulation Growth and Broadens Audience Reach
Pleasantville, NJ, June 18, 2012- The just released Audit Bureau of Circulations FAS Fax report for New Jersey Newspaper Circulation shows The Press of Atlantic City grew in combined circulation numbers for the six-month period of October 2011 to March 2012. The Press of Atlantic City was the only daily newspaper, out of sixteen in New Jersey, to show positive circulation growth for the last two reporting periods. Growth reflected reader interaction with all branded editions including print, digital, replica e-edition, and Sunday Saver products.
According to the FAS Fax report, The Press of Atlantic City increased daily circulation by 6.72%, well above the 1.88% state average for all newspapers. For Sunday circulation, The Press showed a double digit 10.10% increase against the 6.58% state average.
The Press of Atlantic City has the largest news gathering organization dedicated to South Jersey and aggressively focuses on providing news wherever and whenever readers may care to access it. "Counter to popular myth, the news industry is vibrant," states Keith Dawn, publisher. "What's changed is simply how people access it – from print to smart phones and the web. Through solid planning, The Press is a major news provider in those media."
According to a Poynter Institute 2012 study on the State of the News Media, digital news audiences are brand loyal. "Brands still matter," the report notes, adding "... of the 25 most popular U.S. news sites, two-thirds are run by traditional news organizations."
Locally, The Press of Atlantic City, is seeing a similar trend with PressofAtlanticCity.com, the news organization's web edition. The site continues to gain in popularity, and in the last two-years saw audience grow by 30%. In an average month, the site attracts more than 4 million page views and over half a million unique visitors, making it the largest local digital news source in the area.
"Our commitment, regardless of platform, is to provide the local news others don't touch, and our coverage speaks for itself," notes Dawn. From local headlines always gracing page one to in-depth stories about area individuals, companies, events , sports and organizations throughout the paper and site, The Press has stayed the course in focusing on what affects South Jersey.
The Press of Atlantic City is the fourth largest newspaper in the state. Based in Pleasantville, New Jersey, its mission is, "To inform and engage our audiences and to help businesses succeed." In 2010, The Press was awarded one of "10 Newspapers That Do It Right" by Editor & Publisher magazine in recognition of its commitment to local news coverage.
